I love the effect that the patina gives to the copper! it reminds me of the slimy mossy surfaces you see in rockpools. And the way the patina solution flows to the shape of the ring gives it that organic, unpredictable quality that you find in the natural world.

Shanks
These pictures show the shanks and underneath of my ‘green’ ring. The rough forged shank can be seen as being reminiscent of a branch or twig because of the way its left unsanded and tapers towards the ends. With this ring I plan to set it from the outside, unlike the previous ring which was set from the middle.
Exhibition Ring
This is a ‘green’ ring that was submitted to the Vetkat exhibition in Westville. With this piece I tried a new way of setting the enamel from the inside so that the enamel could actually be incorporated into the piece. When attaching the claws I allowed the wire to run out the bottom of the ‘cup’ and then twisted it over and around the shank, to make it more stable, and allow the ring to flow.

After cruising around and soaking it all in, I have decided that ‘The Big Ring’ is something that is definitely in fashion. Large, chunky oversized rings are all over the place. Most of the ones I have seen worn by people around the shops are costume jewellery rings, or ‘bling’ rings.
I want to take this idea of a big ring and apply my own style/design to it. And I would also like to make smaller wearable ‘spin off’ rings.
Here are some of my previous big rings...

Feeling Bleh...

I was feeling incredibly dispondent about the current project i was working on, so i decided to just make myself something pretty to get back into manufacturing, yay! Last year i bought myself a gorgeous Labradorite stone from essenwood flea market and have been meaning to use it in a ring. I absolutely love labradorite, its colours are stunning, and remind me of the deep blue colours of the ocean. This is the ring i made...
